Becoming Superman....with a kite!
Power kiting looks like a whole lot of time and overall effort was put into recreating the ultimate Superman experience. You may not of heard of this before, but it has been a favourite amongst many comic book fa-- er, I mean extreme sport fans across the globe.
The act of power kiting is based around control, with special kites made for use over water or land. It can also be used with buggies/boards, which get dragged along. The kites come with handles or bars and can be powered by opening and closing cells within the lining of the kite, giving lift or making the kite descend. Depending on what flying experience you are after, the kite type varies -- foil to inflatable to one-layer thin.
To get your superhero fix, you first have to read the 'how-to save the world with your imaginary cape' manual first. Take a look at this power kiting forum, to get all the background you'll need on this interesting activity: http://forum.kitecrowd.com/
The British Power Kitesports Association is also worth taking a look at: http://www.bpka.co.uk/
Below is a video of power kiting at it's finest, down in Cornwall (skip to 1:15 mins, for the action).
